Explored the papermaking process of decorative base paper, and the results showed that the ratio of coniferous wood pulp to broad-leaved wood pulp was 6:4; The degree of beating is 33 ° SR; The amount of PAE added is 2%; The amount of titanium dioxide added is 30%; The amount of CPAM added is 0.06%. When preparing titanium dioxide/kaolin composite fillers, four influencing factors were selected: dispersant dosage, ratio of titanium dioxide to kaolin, reaction time, and grinding concentration. Through orthogonal experimental analysis, the process conditions for preparing the composite were as follows: dispersant dosage of 0.3%, kaolin/titanium dioxide ratio of 5:5, composite time of 0.5 hours, and grinding concentration of 45%. Under these conditions, the whiteness of the prepared titanium dioxide/kaolin composite filler is 92.5% ISO, and the covering power is 30.33g/m2. Characterization of the composite effect of titanium dioxide/kaolin composite fillers using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) can visually observe the composite of titanium dioxide and kaolin. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis show that the coating of kaolin with titanium dioxide is not simply a physical adsorption, but a chemical reaction occurs. In addition, the effects of pressing+vacuum drying, vacuum drying, pressing+plate drying, and plate drying on the properties of decorative base paper were compared when adding composite fillers and mixed fillers. The first three drying methods are more beneficial for maintaining the strength of the base paper, but the breathability and absorption of the base paper obtained by pressing and vacuum drying are slightly poor. The difference in the effectiveness of vacuum drying and pressing+plate drying is not significant; When using flat drying, the strength of the base paper is poor, with good breathability and absorption, which cannot meet the production needs; The four drying methods have little effect on the optical properties of the base paper and cannot be used as a standard to distinguish the quality of the optical properties of the base paper. Therefore, the effects of vacuum drying and pressing+plate drying are both suitable. After adding four different fillers, namely kaolin, titanium dioxide, titanium dioxide/kaolin composite filler, and kaolin and titanium dioxide mixed filler, to paper, the difference in whiteness and opacity of the paper is very small. In terms of strength performance, breathability, and capillary absorption height, the composite filler has a better effect, and its performance is close to that of titanium dioxide.
